Director appointed as 2012 Meeting Industry Association Chairman

 

Gary Payne, Director of One Great George Street is appointed Chairman of the Meetings Industry Association (MIA)

One Great George Street, the multi award-winning venue in the heart of Westminster is the workplace for many experienced hospitality professionals, including the Director, Gary Payne who has been appointed Chairman of the Meetings Industry Association (mia) in the UK at this year’s AGM.

Gary Payne is taking over from Peter Darnell. He is no stranger to the meetings, conference and events industry, has operated within this sector in a commercial and non-commercial capacity for over two decades and has been connected to the mia for a number of years as both a member and member of Council. Having been Vice Chairman for the previous two years, Gary is delighted to fulfil the role of Chairman of the mia. Those who have the pleasure of knowing Gary Payne are aware that he is approachable, strategic and passionate about the meetings industry.

Founded in 1990, the mia supports the expansion and involvement of best practice for all organisations included within the meetings industry. Approaching its 22nd year, the mia is the authoritative voice for organisations dedicated to improving the standards of the UK meetings industry. “First and foremost I will seek to continue and enhance the excellent work already started by the mia’s previous chairman, Peter Darnell. We will work together with board and council members and the mia team, to enhance the offering to mia members and increase the reputation of the meetings industry.” Commented Gary Payne, Director of One Great George Street and newly appointed Chairman of the mia. “The key point on our agenda is to develop the long term strategy of the Association, which will include conducting an assessment of the potential of adding sales and marketing benefits to mia membership. And of course in the short term, we will continue the focus on enhancing the reach, reputation and, therefore, relevance of AIM, particularly in relation to buyers. ” continued Gary.

This leading Westminster venue has a hospitality specialist heading up every part of the business and already contributes considerably to the industry. In addition to Gary’s new mia Chairman role, Director of Sales and Marketing, Wendy Greenhalgh is a current board member of The Westminster Collection and Anna Glazebrook is an active member of the marketing committee of the same organisation.
